Gioacchino Starace

Gioacchino Starace was born in Naples in 1994 and graduated in 2015 from the School of Dance of the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome directed by Laura Comi.

He danced in ‘Antiche danze’ by Mauro Bigonzetti at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow and in Romeo and Juliet (interpreting Romeo) by Luciano Cannito at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and the Astrakan Opera House.

In 2015 he danced at the Terme di Caracalla ‘Pink Floyd Ballet’ by Roland Petit, with the corps de ballet of the Teatro dell’Opera of Rome.

After his graduation, he joined the corps de ballet of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he takes part in both repertory and creative productions. He also takes part in all the tournées in France, China and Japan, interpreting several main roles:  he made his debut in the role of Gaston Rieux alongside Roberto Bolle and Svetlana Zakharova. In 2018 and 2019 he danced on the famous red table of the Bolèro by Maurice Béjart.

Among other choreographies where he had leading roles: Sarcasmen by Hans van Manen, Woolf Works by Wayne McGregor, Sleeping Beauty in the Woods by Rudolf Nureyev, Goldberg Variationen by Heinz Spoerli and Shéhérazade, a new creation by Eugenio Scigliano.

As a soloist he danced in: Sylvia (Legris), Adagio Hammerklavier and Kammerballett (van Manen), Giselle (Chauviré), The Nutcracker (Duato), Le Sacre du Printemps (Tetley), Project Händel (Bigonzetti), Petite Mort(Kylián), The Garden of Lovers (Volpini), La Valse (Ballone/Gavazzi/Messina).

In 2017 he was invited by Jas Art Ballet to play “Siegfried” in Giorgio Azzone’s Swan Lake with Sabrina Brazzo at Teatro Carcano in Milan.

In 2017 and 2018 he is one of the protagonists of the Gala “Roberto Bolle and Friends” dancing together with Bolle in the most prestigious Italian theaters such as the Arena di Verona. Again with Roberto Bolle, he performed in the world premiere of The Seasons by Massimiliano Volpini and Edward Liang for the opening night of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2018 in Davos (Switzerland) and in 2019 in the Italian premiere at “Roberto Bolle and the Soloists of Teatro Alla Scala” at Politeama Rossetti in Trieste.

In 2018 and 2020 he was guest dancer of “Danza con me”, a television program directed and conducted by Roberto Bolle.

In 2019 he made his debut as Protagonist in Delirium by Matteo Gavazzi at Cercul Militar Craiova, and in 2020 in Shortcut by Emanuela Tagliavia in Fonderia/Aterballetto.

During his career he received the following awards: the Danza&Danza prize as Emerging Interpreter for the 2017 season; in 2018 the Award Europa in danza as Emerging Dancer of the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan and in 2019 the MADSS Award for Emerging Talent.
